Best Short
NATIVES

We award Natives as Best Overall Short for its beautiful technique, tight writing and great acting and even more its authentic and nuanced depiction of of how queer relationship and family dynamics are affected by deeper issues of race and oppression.

Most Innovative Short
COLOGNE

Cologne uses gorgeous and masterful technique to combine disparate elements of music, classical dance and a unique storyline for a powerful lot of storytelling in 12 minutes. And c'mon... Dolly Parton!

Best Narrative Feature
REACHING FOR THE MOON

For the historical depth in the telling of Elizabeth Bishop's life, while remaining an emoitinally personal film - the combination of captivating story tellnig lovingly photographed and superb acting of beautifully flawed characters. This film offers an honest portrait and a glimpse into a history where lesbian relations are often erased.

Honorable Mention - Narrative Feature
GETTING GO: THE GO DOC PROJECT

A scrappy, innovative film that brought a unique artistic expression to sex as politics. Charming and surprising characters coming of age.

Best Documentary
MR. ANGEL

Both daring and sentimental, outrageous and totally human. Mr. Angel is a revelation.

Honorable Mention Documentary
I ALWAYS SAID YES: THE MANY LIVES OF WAKEFIELD POOLE

An inspiring tale of re-invention and an influential but widely unrecognized artist.

Special Award for Multi-Media or Live Event:
RETURN TO GREY GARDENS starring Peaches Christ and Jinkx Monsoon

For its perfectly acted, hilariously creative homage to Maysles brothers' masterpiece.

NOTE: These AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE are chosen by three esteemed panels of jurors and include a cash prize: Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary, $1,000; Best Short Film and Most Innovative Short Film, $300.

NOTES

I AM DIVINE is director Jeffrey Schwarz's second Audience Award from SLGFF (the first being for VITO in 2011).

Another repeat winner is The Devotion Project; director Antony Osso won Favorite Gay Short Film for THE DEVOTION PROJECT: MORE THAN EVER, in 2012.

SPOONERS also won the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Short Film at SIFF 2013.

Tom Gustafson produced GETTING GO: THE GO DOC PROJECT, which won an Honorable Mnetion this year and was directed by Tom's filmmaking partner, Cory Krueckeberg. Tom won the SLGFF Best New Director Award (an award not given out this year) in 2008 for WERE THE WORLD MINE, which was written and produced with Cory Krueckeberg.
