A Swiss Rebel

UNE SUISSE REBELLE

Wednesday, October 20, 7:30pm

Author, journalist, photographer, non-conformist and homosexual, Annemarie Schwarzenbach (who was portrayed in last year’s festival feature JOURNEY TO KAFIRISTAN) was a rebel when the world needed one most. The daughter of a wealthy Zurich industrial family that made no attempt to disguise their Nazi sympathies, Annemarie chose to forge her own path by traveling the world denouncing Europe’s fascist movements as well as America’s exploitation of its workers. Using archival film footage made public for the first time, A SWISS REBEL documents the relationship between Annemarie and her mother, whose love was fierce, yet domineering, as well as Annemarie’s lifetime struggle with drug addiction and her quest to be herself in a conflicted world. A SWISS REBEL proves that even when one’s life is cut too short, taking a heroic stand can make a lasting difference.
