Getting it Made

PANEL DISCUSSION

Sunday, October 17, 12:00pm

If Hollywood isn’t generally interested in showing queer stories, what does a director who wants to make a film outside of the mainstream do? Are the means of production truly accessible to all? Does only sex sell? How do queer filmmakers get their work made? We’ve invited filmmakers who have each completed their work in unique ways. They’ll discuss the pros and cons of working independently, how to get financed and whom they had to beg (or promise favors?) to help bring their vision to fruition. Scheduled to appear: Q. Allan Brocka (EATING OUT), Chris Russo (A WOMAN REPORTED), Wendy Jo Carlton (BRUSH FIRES), Crayton Robey (WHEN OCEAN MEETS SKY), and Casper Andreas (SLUTTY SUMMER).

Moderator Heather Ayres is a writer, director, and editor whose film LIPSTICK MEN is screening in this year’s LOCAL PRODUCE program. Her short film SHARING THE SHEETS screened at the 2003 Seattle LGFF, and on KCTS. She is currently writing and directing her first ultra-low-budget feature film, THE ARGUMENT OF LOVE.
