REISE NACH KAFIRISTAN)

Monday, October 20
7:15pm
Based
on the remarkable true story of Annemarie Schwarzenbach (a friend
of Erika and Klaus Mann), the hypnotic JOURNEY TO KAFIRISTAN follows
Schwarzenbach and ethnologist Ella Maillart on a transcontinental
adventure during the summer of 1939. The women travel through the
breathtaking landscapes of Switzerland, Turkey, and Afghanistan
on their way to the fabled Valley of Good Fortune in
Kafiristan, in an effort to escape their personal dramas and the
political unrest in Europe. Ella searches for the idealized homeland
of a nomadic people, while Annemarie embarks upon a voyage of self-discovery
following her battles with morphine addiction. As they press through
unfamiliar worlds and draw closer to their destination, Ella and
Annemarie are drawn together
and passions ignite.
