| Soon after country boy Marcos (the smoldering Jorge Sanz) comes to Madrid to seek his fortune, he meets two potential suitors: Dominican single mother Marisol and fun-loving aspiring actor Daniel. Though Daniel’s blunt, sensible friend Carmen (scene-stealing Almodóvar regular Verónica Forqué) advises against it, Daniel convinces Marcos to move in with him. All is sweet-natured romance until a surreal turn of events pushes Marcos into Marisol’s arms, prompting Daniel to become another person entirely. Love can certainly make impostors of us all and nothing will prepare you for the surprise ending. A dynamic merengue soundtrack, vibrant cinematography, and uniquely Spanish plot twists and style make I LOVE YOU BABY one of the year’s most noteworthy international releases. I
