| At an early age, Harold "Hal" O’Neal started making 8mm and 16mm movies as a hobby. Now 92, O’Neal has hundreds of short films which provide an unprecedented and epic look at gay American life in the 20th Century. We are proud to present a selection of these amazing and insightful works from O’Neal’s personal archives. Explore San Francisco circa 1940; gaze at beautiful sailors and marvel at the bustle of city folk in their daily grind. Witness grim images of life during WWII, including Japanese-Americans boarding internment camp trains. Peek into the life of O’Neal and his gay friends-at private soirees, weekend trips to the Russian River, a garden party (with the late local gay filmmaker James Broughton), and a drag show at the infamous Beige Room. Finally, relive the spirit of ’70s gay pride (San Francisco style) with parades, activists, and bell-bottoms! HAROLD’S HOME MOVIES offers a fascinating, unobstructed documentation of images rarely seen in queer cinematic history. Hal
O’Neal with his partner of 50 years, George (who lives in the Puget
Sound area) will be in attendance. Q&A will follow the presentation. Welcome
