| As cofounder of the Lesbian Herstory Archives (housed in her living room for 25 years), political and sexual "bad girl" Joan Nestle has devoted her life to documenting the lesbian past history and forging a new queer consciousness. HAND ON THE PULSE focuses attention on Nestle herself, presenting a woman whose career as a grassroots activist spans nearly half a century: from Greenwich Village in the 1950s to civil rights marches in the 1960s; from the early days of feminism in the 1970s to the heated lesbian "sex wars" of the 1980s. Using interviews, photos, and archival footage, this documentary tells the poignant story of one of the queer community’s most fearless activists. Now in her sixties, Joan continues to celebrate the body, holding public readings of her erotic stories in her signature black slip, and battling colon cancer with humor, strength, and love. Ever the rebel, Nestle continues to challenge barriers to women’s free expression of their sexuality and gender. Playing
with CHERRIES IN THE SNOW (AN ODE TO JOAN NESTLE)
