CALL TO WITNESS

Gays and lesbians who long to be not only accepted by their church, but actively involved as well, know the challenges faced by nearly every major religious denomination in the country. CALL TO WITNESS documents the controversy within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) by focusing on the stories of three pastors pushed out of the ELCA and two San Francisco congregations expelled from the denomination. Rev. Steve Sabin, supported by his congregation, was tried and disciplined by the ELCA when he refused to resign. Rev. Jane Ralph lost her pastorship and currently has no process for recourse. Pastoral Minister Anita Hill serves and is loved by her congregation, but because she is in a committed relationship with another woman, she cannot be ordained in the ELCA. Filmmaker Pam Walton presents a touching, honest, and inspiring look at the heartfelt desires of gays and lesbians to be accepted and acknowledged members of their spiritual communities.

Plus short: CHANGING HABITS traces a day in the life of a queer Gregorian Friar -- a fascinating observation of how one man lives by his spiritual virtues in the face of modern-day issues.
